Kundalini Meditation

Why this method
Kundalini Meditation is the evening counterpart to morning intensity—shake, dance, sit, then lie in silence. Osho framed it for people who sit in chairs all day and think they can think their way calm. The body discharges what the mind catalogues; only then does witnessing have a chance. Without shake and dance, sitting is often fidget with better posture.
Background
Developed alongside Dynamic in the active meditation suite, Kundalini spread through Osho centers as the default sunset practice. The name borrows kundalini vocabulary but the method is practical: vibration and movement before stillness, not serpent imagery as belief.
Stages
- Shaking — Stand, feet shoulder-width, and let shaking rise from the feet.
- Dance — Move any way the energy wants; there is no right style.
- Sit — Witness, still and quiet, observing breath and inner space.
- Silence — Lie down and rest without technique.
Why the stages are ordered this way
Shaking loosens frozen musculature. Dancing adds joy so discharge does not become grim therapy. Sitting brings witness to whatever buzz remains. Lying down integrates—gravity helps the nervous system stand down before sleep.
Safety and contraindications
Joint issues, vertigo, and pregnancy require adaptation—shake smaller, dance lower. If you feel pain, slow down; the spirit of shaking is vibration, not self-injury. Epilepsy and recent concussion need medical clearance.
Group or solo
Groups supply music timing and shared permission to look absurd. Solo is fine with official music once you know the arc. Save lying down for the final silence only.
